| Last month we presented
the proyect Art-Points. In a series of public places, as hotels,
restaurants and shops, the artworks of artists of international level are
exhibited. This way, the art opens a way to a wide public and gets a presence
in our daily lives: be it a dinner in a restaurant, the purchase of some
furniture or even a visit at the haidresser offers us this way the contact
with the art. Starting from this month, El Sismógrafo too becomes
an Art-Point, in the sense that every month we will present one artist and
his/her artwork to you.
BODY PARTS
Ronit Konorty - Levy
The artist.
We start this series with
the artist Ronit Konorty-Levy from Israel.
She finished her studies
of graphic design in Haifa in '86, while at the same time achieving a teachers
degree. From there to Texas, were she studies advertising until '90. Since
'98 she has her own studio open to the public in Haifa, where she also
gives lessons in digital art. There is a virtual version of her studio that
can be visited on www.ronitkl.co.il.
Since she finished her studies,
her artistic activities are centred on digital art.
The computer gives her freedom
of expression and technique She paints directly to the computer and does
not use scanned images.
With her way of working,
for her, the creative process is endless; while the image is saved on the
hard drive, it is still alive. The printing of a work shows its actual
state during its evolution. She prints the images in her studio and this
is part of the creative process, as she changes and manipulates the result.
Each print is unique.

The artwork
The Body Parts series concludes
the two main series she has worked on for the past two years: Nudes and
Portraits.
With the Nudes, she tried
to portray the beauty and grace of the female body; each painting in the
series emphasizes a different part of the body, which corresponds to a
different period in her personal life.
With the Portraits, she
tried to contrast the basic power lines of the format with the shape of
the human face. The contrast evolves from the geometric character of a
two-dimensional format and the organic lines and shapes that form a human
face.
Ronot Konorty-Levy's work
is intuitive, she works directly on the computer using various painting
methods, but she sees color as her primary tool. The Body Parts project
enabled her to experiment with colors and textures already existing in
older paintings and to give them a totally new meaning. Her main goal was
to create a visual combination of various painting techniques and different
approaches to the subject.
She tries to use images
that represent ideas and thoughts as a simple and sometimes complex color
or texture. The names of the collages stand for the the grid used for the
basic composition. For example, the piece titled 20 Body Parts has a 5x4
grid.
For this project Body Parts
she used images from the Nudes and Portraits series to build digital collages.
She started each collage by selecting a previous painting, or a part of
it, to serve as background of the new one. The selected image, being the
foundation of a new painting, now serves as an abstract background texture.
She selects other paintings or parts of them and overlays them, creating
multi-layered images.
In some cases the new layers
just add color, in other cases they serve as a reminder of the full body
drawing. |
