April 2004 - Ivano Castaldo

He was born in Brusciano (Italy) in 66.
After studying classical music in the Conservatory of Avellino (Italy), Castaldo went to Holland to study Jazz music in the Conservatory of Arnhem.
In Holland, inspired by the way of life, he turned towards another of his passions: contemporary art.
Castaldo creates contemporanean paintings and sculptures and other forms of art, often using recycled materials or materials found in nature.
After 10 years in Holland, he returns to Italy in 2002.
Harry van Gestel, of the Gallery GAIA in Amsterdam, says about him, that  "... we strongly recommend you to enter into the works of this talented and young contemporanean artist. It has been a pleasure to know and follow this artist from nearby during the last 10 years and we have found in him an exceptional desire to innovate and to explore the fields of painting and sculpture, always searching the confrontation within the freedom of expression. His last works show great strength and courage. The story he tells in his artworks does not need any titles, it will pull you inside the story of his life."

Critics:
Castaldo creates, on a clear classical italian background, some very coloured jazz impressions, out of which surge his free expressions.
Sometimes, his delined forms remind us of some sculptures, an explosion of form and colour for artworks full of life, music and movement.
