Art at the bakery, in the hotel or restaurant: The Artpoints take the Art out of the Musea and put it in very daily spaces.

ART IN MANY PLACES
"Art Points" are exhibitions in bars, restaurants or also Magazines.
(Katharina Korell - Torrevieja)
Artworks, skulptures and video installations are there for everybody. Not only for a group of elected ones. This is the opinion of the creators of the initiative "Art Point" and they demand: the Art out of the Musea and into the public eye, in places that cost no entry fee, in the so-called "Art Points". Art Points can be bars, hotels or hairdressers, train stations, busstops or restaurants. Right now there are 22 exhibition rooms, say "Art Points", along the Costa Blanca". They are also places where potentially buying tourist gather.
The projekt exists since 2001. The creator nad curator is Belgian, in his passport is written the name Jan Gielens, but in artistic circles he is only known as "Aguila". Gielens is himself a painter, sculptor and designer and was a teacher in a "new-age" University in Brussels. His assistant, Kai Engels is not of the artistic branch, and thus the perfect collaborator, "because as a lay(wo)man, she inmediately recognizes where and whether the artworks will appeal to the public", says Gielens.
Away, to the desert.
Still another plan lies behind these exhibitions in bakeries and bars: "We want to break open the elitary Art scene, which gives possibility for exhibition to only very few artists. To us the actual art criteria seems too narrow. Art should be a daily part of life, as it is made by humans and should stay in reach of humans to inspire them always and everywhere."
"God is an artist" Pablo Picasso once said. Because to be an artist means to be free and to create freely. The true artist does not work for himself, not for a gallery owner, not for the place in the museum. He works because he can't do otherwise. And still he has to eat, sleep and breathe, like anyone else.
The association "Art Points" wants to give the artists te greatest freedom to work and -aside of that- help them to exhibit and to sell their work. The association organizes exhibition rooms for the artists, which in turn pay 180 euros a year. The works of the artists that are represented by "Art Points" on the Costa Blanca, irradiate -as different as they are- the individual creativity of their makers. Just as the places in which the works are exhibited.

For another project, that is still music of the future, Gielens has put his eye on a next, very special, place. The werstern Sahara. In this dry desert land, which after the colonial period, was given to Morocco again, he sometime wants to fund an artist academy with Museum. On a place where there is nothing but sand, and where the creativity of the artists thus finds no limitations |
