Mixed Media, Digital Imaging, Sculpture About the Artist Michael Maile has been active in the arts for several years, experimenting with traditional as well as contemporary methods of photography, collage, assemblage of found objects, as well as sculpture. Born 1943 in Germany, he left school at the age of 15 and worked for several years in Switzerland and Australia before settling in Canada in 1976. There he pursued various successful business ventures and decided in 1995 to devote his future life to the arts. Since then his work appeared in numerous juried exhibitions in the Golden Horseshoe area of Ontario, particularly in St. Catharines, Grimsby, Hamilton, Burlington, Dundas, Guelph, Brampton and Mississauga. During this period he also served 2 years as Treasurer of the Latow Photographers’ Guild and as Editor of the monthly newsletters for the Fine Arts Association, both organizations being affiliated with the Burlington Arts Centre. Early in 1999 Michael Maile
and his wife, the painter Max Fung, relocated from Stoney Creek via Niagara-0n-The-Lake
to the Greater Napanee area. There they both maintain studios and a private
gallery featuring their own work as well as a small but growing international
art-collection.

Statement: My found-object art-work involves the often playful and sometimes solemn re-formation of objects which have outlived their perceived “first-life” usefulness. My work consists of moving these objects into a “next life” scenario that may provoke and encourage us to re-think our own purpose in life. The process compares somewhat with my own mid-life transition from business-life to artistic endeavours, its associated complications and the underlying desire for creative impact. Digital imaging has evolved through my involvement with computers and web-sites, and a particular discovery in this process is the aura-like development of colour-fields and patterns in familiar objects such as eyes and eggs. I also employ the practice of digital drawing, a playful and pleasant way of present-state mind-mapping. In additon to my general
art-work I am also developing two larger projects for future exhibitions,
one of them involving "Fencing", the other a particular multi-storied building
on 80 Spadina Ave., Toronto. For more information click on the underlined
